Our Borneo trip was wonderful, we liked it very much. It's a pity we couldn't

We were in a shock seeing that the guide was at the airport on time, as the

and we weren't able to send you

We saw twice an
orangutang not too far from the Abai river lodge.
When we went by boat from the Kinanbatangan river lodge we saw the pymy
elephants also two times. One group was very big ( at least 30) and very close
by, one elephant even came into the river about 2 meters from the boat!
At Tabin we saw some more.
For the rest we saw very many different kind of monkeys.

Abai Jungle Lodge is very
attractive (we loved it) – Just along the river, the lodge is well situated,
quiet and intimate.
Danum Valley: BRL: One of the best we’ve done during the tour! We loved Rainforest
Lodge whose rooms are very comfortable and typical. Comfort, cleanliness and
especially food : excellent Wonderful landscapes and treks...Everything
perfect! Exciting treks
(canopy walkways). We regret not also having done Tabin.
River Safari:We loved it : very quiet and interesting Have seen a
lot of animals (elephants, proboscis, birds, crocodiles, snakes...)
Menyang Tais Longhouse: It’s an experience ! Very nice people whose we appreciated their
kindness. Very good meals prepared by James !! We have slept on mattresses, so
it was more comfortable than we should have imagined.
Guides: All guides were competent and pleasant. ….a great
knowledge of nature, ….., keeps his ears open to satisfy us, – Very good guides.

Jodi, writing to thank you
for putting together our trip…everything was done well. All the travel
arrangements worked and our guides were uniformly satisfactory or better…. In
the jungle, rooms with only a fan were fine…(as)..one spent only the cooler evening
and night in them. I particularly thank you for recommending and I recommend to
others the overnight at Bako, the extra night at Mulu, and the third night at
Danum.
It would have been nice to
have spent even more time in Borneo. (& this was a 3 week package!)

Please describe the highlights of your trip. A highlight
was seeing orangutans in the wild. Staying in the lodges and going to sleep and
waking up with the sounds of the jungle was a key part of our experience.

The itinerary was the best possible for the time allotted. All the arrangements
worked out fine.
1st : Loved
it. Orangutans and the rangers were fantastic. Lounge bar crew, had a blast
with. All the staff extremely friendly. 2nd..was
the perfect last stop on our vacation; relaxing, out in the jungle, on the
water, good food, good drink.
Accommodation at each place
was nice and comfortable.
DIVE CENTER
Amazing.
Like something out of the movies. living out in the middle of the ocean, watching turtles come up
for air, while sitting on our back deck.
Fabulous dive
team, each dive master was attentive, and very knowledgeable.Food was ok, Loved this place.

General:
When planning my trip to Borneo I knew that I wanted to concentrate on wildlife endemic to Borneo. With that being said I gave Jodi my wish list and she came up with the perfect fit for what turned out to be
one of my adventures of a lifetime. My expectations were exceeded for all aspects of the trip from the flight on Korean Airlines to our final hotel stay in KK not to mention all of the FANTASTIC wildlife

Jodi, Here is my evaluation.
I really, honestly couldn't find anything negative about our trip. You did a
great job putting it together for us. Thanks so much. (blue text from Lynn)
I thought the progression from more rustic to luxury was the perfect fit. All accommodations were clean and well kept. Food was prepared and presented in a pleasing manner.
The various fruits served for dessert were heavenly.
I was very
happy with the lodging. The island
chalets and the lodges were better than I expected regarding bathroom
facilities and mosquitos and other bugs (or lack thereof! ) If my time
had allowed,
I could have spent additional time at Danum Valley. There were several trails we did not
take. But certainly, three nights
gave one a good feel for the place.
For all that
we accomplished in nine days I was very happy.
River Safari:
What can I say? How many people in the world get to see 8% of the world’s population of pygmy elephants cross the river in front of them!!! Absolutely one of the highlights of my adventure.
All river safari trips were timed well for wildlife discovery. I thought the length of time spent on the water was just right as well as the spacing of the excursions throughout the day.
I was surprised at the abundance of wildlife so close to us each time we cruised.
The River Safari
was fantastic. I loved being out on the water. We had some great experiences.
The pygmy elephant herd swim across the river was the highlight but we saw a
wide variety of monkeys, birds and other critters that made every bend in the
river an exciting experience! Even being out in a massive thunderstorm was
great fun!!!
Abai Village:
I generally prefer wildlife with minimal cultural experience. The trip to Abai village
was perfect. Enough time to see village life and witness the progress the
Malaysian
government is making to upgrade living conditions in the country.
I
enjoyed planting my tree which gave me a feeling that I was doing my
part to
preserve habitat and promote land growth.
I really
enjoyed visiting the Abai Village. Before coming, I imagined that the people of
Borneo were very primitive but that is not the case at all. They live different
than we do in America but they have a very nice life. I always enjoy learning
about the native culture. Very warm, friendly people contributed a lot to the
success of our trip.
Danum Valley:
This primary rainforest exceeded all of my thoughts on what the rainforest should be like. I have been in numerous rainforests before but nothing topped the discoveries that awaited me here.
The enormous 300-400 hundred year old trees and the diversity of wildlife.
Again, tours were perfect in length and spaced throughout the day. Our guide was always willing to go on as many hikes as we
desired.
BRL personnel always put safety and preservation first.
Highlights
from Danum Valley included the night drives/hikes in which we saw a
flying squirrel, leopard cat, civet, and Borneo horned frog.
Hiking in
the early morning to see orangutans wake up from their nests.
Eating meals in the open air main lodge surrounded by
the primary
rainforest. And finally, going to bed at night with the myriad of noises emanating from the rainforest.
This was my
favorite part of the trip. I love to hike animal watch and relax and Danum
Valley provided it all! I really enjoyed the night hikes or rides and how
beautiful
it was under the stars. Our experience with “King” (the wild Alpha Male orangutan) was awesome and
one that I’ll never forget! Leeches were NOT everywhere
and neither were
mosquitoes!
HIGHLIGHTS:
What can I say, everything was a highlight!!!! Watching the sea turtles lay eggs, snorkeling in the Sulu Sea. Seeing the herd of pygmy elephants cross the river.
Seeing proboscis monkeys and orangutans Being in the primary rainforest.
I’d have to say it’s hard to pick a
highlight because the entire trip was awesome.
1) A herd of
pygmy elephants. 2)
Orang-utans. 3) The incredible variety
in such a short time—beach, snorkeling, sea turtles, Sepilok, river wildlife
tours (day and night), boardwalk tours, tour of Abai, cave, Danum Valley with
its daytime and nighttime activities and canopy walk. Wow!
I loved all
of the lodges. I felt like an
honored guest at each one. The food was excellent and the staff treated us like
royalty. I had not expected the rooms to be as modern and comfortable as they
were. I was so worried about bugs
in our room – I should never have worried. All of our rooms were exceptionally
clean and provided all the comforts of home.
GUIDES: All of our guides were great. They
smiled all of the time! I felt confident that they would take care of us. I
know they do this every day with different groups of people but they seemed to
honestly enjoy our cruises or hikes as much as we did. They were excited about
showing us their “home” and all the exciting things to see and do. We laughed
that Sylvester must be an amateur entomologist because he could spot a bug from
a mile away!
TRANSFERS:
I was so
impressed with the transfer processes. We were met on time at each leg of our
trip. The check in process with organized and without problems as was the
check-out procedures. Flights in and out of Borneo were the best I’ve ever
taken and I travel a lot.
Very
comfortable. On the long haul from
Sukau to Lahad Datu I was particularly pleased. On previous tours in other countries, drivers have not been
as cautious as I would have liked…… I thought the drivers were excellent.
All other transfers were fine also.
VALUE FOR
YOUR MONEY (Bang per Buck!) As you are
all well-traveled, please indicate how the value of this trip compares to your
other travels.
There is
absolutely no doubt in my mind that this trip was the most cost effective I have every taken. Everything
was included – except souvenirs and these were unbelievably inexpensive. I
actually came home from this trip WITH MONEY LEFT OVER.

e-mails since we had many many e-mails between us.
I only wish I could wrangle you more clients but they all came with me!
We each had a great time and this trip is one of my top 4 all time favorites.

It has been an
amazing experience, which we will never forget. Seeing so many different types
of animals and learning about them has just been fantastic.
We have during our
8 days felt in safe hands, with everything being very good organized.
The highlight was definitely, that we were able to experience
the animals on such a close hold. Especially on the night cruises we went on,
we could watch the kingfishers from only half a meter away. It was also good
that we had the river safaris from two different places, because we saw
different animals both places.
It was also fun, that we had to wear a sarong at dinner.
Abai Village:
It was fun to experience a small village like that, which didn’t
have many resources, but managed to make it on their own, with some help from
Sandakan.
It was also nice to experience their tree-planting-project and plant
a tree on our own.
The highlight
there was, when we discovered an Orang- Utan from the board walk and we just
sat there watching it for a while.

very good at arranging just the right tour for us, according to our wishes. She

because it has been a pleasure.
LODGING: We enjoyed our stay at the Harbor View. Not a bad deal for the cost. Nice
service, interesting clientele and a great location (our room had a great
view).
The buffet was good as
well. I would definitely keep using this place.
Lubok
Kasai Jungle lodge: We really liked this lodge. It was spartan, but comfortable and clean and you couldn’t
ask for a better location. The
hikes were great,
we got to swim in the river and the food they cooked up was
excellent & we got to see wild Orangutans!
Gayana Eco
Resort: Really nice place. Highly recommend it. Amazing service, food was excellent,
spa was great,
and the rooms were beautiful. The dive shop is also well equipped with new gear and good
dive masters.
TOURS:
Bako
National Park: Great wild life viewing and a beautiful location. The only downside is the rooms (canteen
and common areas are fine). The
outside of the
rooms look great, but inside they are just skeevy. We think that
they are just doing the minimum necessary upkeep before the new facilities are
up and running.
The
experience was easily dealt with.......would not have wanted to miss staying overnight and the advantages that it gave us. All that said,
we
wouldn’t have given up going to the park, its well worth dealing with the
facilities for a night and would do it again -
If you have a client that isn't used to roughing it I
would say stay clear.
City Tour: Great orientation of the city. We’re
definitely glad we did it first thing when we arrived at Kuching because it was
helpful for the rest of the stay.
Longhouse
Trip:the whole jungle trip was fantastic. The Iban boat drivers were impressive
and the hikes were really good and they gave a good feel for the jungle
environment.
(we got to see wild Orangutans) We'll tell you all about the Orangutans when we
see you. It was really amazing. Rives was impressive at
tracking them. We saw a couple of females,
a couple of babies and I think
a male. It was fantastic. Also really enjoyed the waterfall side trip.
GUIDE: Rives: Great guide. Very knowledgeable about
the wildlife and culture and good animal tracker. He was also personable and responsive to any requests we
had.
Would definitely recommend
him to your future customers.
HIGHLIGHTS:The trip was one big highlight ..........but I think our favorites
were the trip up the Delok River (through the jungle) and R&R at the Eco Gayana Resort.
City Hotel: Harbor View Hotel: Clean neat and
comfortable. Breakfast was excellent in quality and choices.
Tours: Iban Longhouse visit: A interesting
opportunity to observe the culture and interact with local indigenous people.
The Iban of this longhouse
were welcoming, friendly and open to sharing their
culture and way of life. The trail to the mountain rice fields provided an
interesting detail and lovely
scenery for photography.Food was the same
as prepared for the family. Tasty, flavorful, varied and generous.
Bako National Park: Wildlife were ample including Proboscis
Monkey, Wild Boar, colorful dragonflies, and butterflies. Landscapes at low
tide are
very photogenic. Well suited for Eco- Photo Touring.
Kuching City tour: Kuching is a
beautiful city with the cosmopolitan appeal of Malaysian, Indian, Chinese and
Indigenous influences. The waterfront, and market tours ….provide both
interesting sights as well as photo opportunities.
GUIDE: Lemon exceeded my expectations. He
was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I would rank him with the
best
local guides that I have had the pleasure to work with on my numerous previous
tours.
HIGHLIGHTS: In hindsight there were many
highlights. Kuching and the temples were amazing. Even the food at the
local
restaurant was a pleasure. The opportunity to spend time with the Iban was
worth the trip.
Perhaps the greatest highlight was meeting
and working with people I feel I can trust and work with in the future –
one of
the goals of my trip.
JUNGLE JAUNTS SERVICE: Your advice was what I wanted and it
proved to be very valuable. Lots of documentation that is valuable
for
the experienced and novice world traveler to Borneo……

people and the remote location. Would have preferred to have done
two nights
there and only one at Kinabatangan due to number of people.
Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge: Comfortable,
great food, friendly people, great service.
Borneo
Rainforest Lodge: Awesome place, wonderful staff and spectacular service. Truly
a wonderful experience,
hence we extended the stay there. That is exactly what
we enjoy smaller numbers of people and really wild.
TOURS:
River Safari: Great / Abai Village: Wonderful
day out with lunch and tree planting / Danum Valley: Awesome.
We had a wonderful trip to Borneo and will be
back again definitely... Also we extended our stay at Danum a night.

Malaysia will always amaze the traveler with
it’s spectacular scenery and wildlife so
pleasing customers in that regard should be
easy. What the customer wants to feel is
that the tour is being tailored to suit them
and the level of personal service is sufficient
to warrant spending the money on a tour
agent.
I feel that people we encountered did all
in their power to ensure we felt well cared for.
Jungle Trip: We were fortunate enough to encounter a young (5-6 year old) male orang utan in the wild. He was absolutely amazing, demonstrating how strong and
impressive he could be. We could have stayed for hours watching and interacting with him, but we knew our presence was disturbing, so after 15-20 minutes
we left him in peace.
Guide: Our guide, Mel, was very good. He added much to our experience with his knowledge.
We'll go back to Borneo. Next time, we will spend only a day or so in the city, 3 days as deep in the jungle as possible and then likely move east to Sabah with the same pattern.

The highlights for me were the river exploring; we saw silver-leaf monkeys, wild orangatans and two babies with mothers, pig tail and long tail macats,vipers, and crocs.

Orangutans, the river trip, longhouse experience, Mulu caves, Bako both
hiking and the animals, Topspot restaurant (especially #25 and the gelato
place there). The Sarawak Regatta. Relaxing at Nexxus. We all had so much fun!

Just a quick note during our free day in Kuching.
We are having a great time. Our guide is wonderful and we are really enjoying ourselves. One of the drivers we have had knows you and sends his regards.
We have already done the longhouse and will be doing Bako tomorrow. There is a big festival in Kuching yesterday, today and
tomorrow and we are all really enjoying that. There is boat racing, stalls, music, parades and we even saw the Chief Minister of Sarawak. I have so many photos I can't decide on which to send you but if Iget the chance or feel like doing e-mail later I will send some along. We have met a lot of people over here and so far think that the order of activities on this trip is really excellent.
I have been traveling and living around the world since I was 25 years old, so that is about, I’m shy to say, 37 years. Several trips have made my personal category, “Dream trips of a life-time.” I can honestly say that Borneo easily made the category. Why? It is beautiful country with friendly, sincere people, and has exotic and exciting things to see and do: indigenous tribes, wildlife, safaris. It is really a first class jungle jaunt.
The stay at the Kinabatangan Jungle Lodge with the wildlife viewing boat trips was another highlight. The guides and boatmen took such good care of me that they were almost like family. I saw 20 different types of birds, mammals and reptiles including wild orangutan, pygmy elephants, and hornbills....... I think by the time you get that deep into the jungle, only like minded people are there. In most cases, I was the oldest person by far, but I didn’t even think about that until later because I was always treated like everyone else.
The trip was well organized meeting all our expectations......we have been travelling (in nature) a lot.
This was excellent trip to get a bit of everything and there was possibility to skip some small trips if you wished. There is always somebody who likes more city tours and somebody who likes more jungle trips. The most important is your group and guide you're traveling with. In our case everything was just perfect.

Our longhouse visit: reflecting on going into deep jungle with the Iban tribe is still amazing. The scenery was spectacular spectacular. I took a lot of pictures but who knows if I captured the moment. It was just so green as we rounded each bend - the green of the forest would reflect off the water turning it this nice shade of green ... complete with reflections of the rainforest. The deeper you go in, the better it got & the noisier it gets from the sounds of the jungle... insects & animals ... At no time did it look anything like 'The Jungle Cruise' at Disneyland!
Lunch on the river at a waterfall: they treated us to Iban fishing .... he takes this net and throws it into the river. Somehow he pulls out fish ….. The boatman pulls out a belt and a machete and literally runs up into the jungle. About 5-8 minutes later, he returns with this incredibly nice piece of bamboo that you would use to decorate your house …6-8 feet long. As it turns out, they are going to use this to "cook" lunch. The lunch was incredible, ’catered’ from scratch --- using branches and bamboo and fire.
The ride back to their longhouse was the BEST. They shut off the motor and we just floated downstream - through thick, incredible jungle. No words could/should describe this... easily outdid my previous best boat ride on the Mekong. WOW ..The highlight of the trip!
We could talk about my first night at the Longhouse, but it was sort of unbelievable. We meet the 'chief', an elderly patient man. There was a "town meeting" and everyone was sitting around (literally), as the "group" was discussing future longhouse plans/expansion…………..Somewhere in there the rice wine comes out………. I was even invited into the “hunters’ room to share some beer and food from a recent hunt!
Back in the “city” I wanted to buy a carving I saw enroute to the airport, but had no time to make the purchase. Just being able to slip some money into an envelope, take off in a rushed manner & then having the quality of “service” and care & concern afterwards blows my mind. Life is just not that simple, unless you are dealing with exemplary people. A thousand thanks . Nice karma.
Unfortunately many people I know are fearful about traveling to this part of the world....There is not much for me to say – guess all I can do is show my pictures to everyone and assure them that the people there are “exemplary.”
There is MUCH for Americans to learn.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of my greatest trips yet. The Santubong climb, swimming in the underground river in Mulu …. and traveling up and down the jungle rivers by longboat during the longhouse tour, were certainly the highlights for me. But there were many other enjoyable experiences as well. GUIDES: I had three different ones: and they were all first-rate: knowledgeable, reliable and able to express themselves very well in English. A bad guide can ruin a trip like this, so it is important to go with a tour company that gets good guides. I had 3 good ones. The guide on the ‘adventure’ caving expedition was excellent.. He could see my balance wasn’t as good as the other two tourists (ain’t a kid anymore, alas!) and he did all kinds of subtle things to help me along, that he probably thought I didn’t notice, but I did.
LUXURY HOMESTAY: Loved it! Beautiful place, and owner is certainly an interesting and entertaining conversationalist.
JUNGLE JAUNTS SERVICE: Jodi, your service was superb. You know the country, you were very reliable (you did what you said you were going to do) you took a real interest in me…you made me feel that the success of my trip was something that was important to you..

I discovered Jungle Jaunts on the Internet, and very rapidly Jodi put together a personalized package. My family (myself, husband and 10 year-old daughter) traveled to Borneo to see wildlife. What we discovered was a part of the world that appears untouched. It was an incredible experience. Everything worked like clockwork- the airplanes, the highly professional personal guide and drivers. Our trip was so much more than we had anticipated.
My daughter who is 10 years old was the one who initiated this trip. Oh the anticipation! the thrill of the first wild orangutan. We could hear them and sense their presence, but no words can express the joy in my little girl's face when she looked up and there it was - swinging on the vine.
The drama and suspense of hiking quietly in the wild until the guide spots what may be a group.. and then the ultimate thrill! We had hoped to see a few Proboscis Monkeys and some orangutans....
We saw everything we wanted and much more. The fact that the region is almost undiscovered gave us the opportunity to see these magnificent animals in their habitat at very close quarters.
The serenity and peace of Borneo was beyond anything we could have hoped for. It was like a slice of paradise and we were the only guests. The hospitality of the tribes and the warmth with which we were received in the Long House was extremely humbling.
One of the best holidays we have been on. Memories for a lifetime. Hope my daughter can recount her experiences for others so that there is more interest in eco travel.

......I then set out on one of the most fascinating trips I have ever been on (to an Iban longhouse) ......The fact that the natives allowed us to come into their homes to visit is a once in a life-time experience.
being able to see the rare Proboscis Monkeys at such close range was breathtaking and enabled me to take awesome photographs..........
Visiting the Orangutans in their natural habitat was wonderful....I have never seen an orangutan so close-up
I was lucky to meet up with Jodi....she had an enormous amount of information about everything ....... Because of her contacts, I was able to experience many things that a typical tourist would never be able to experience. ..... When you are traveling it is unusual to be invited into peoples’ homes, and so to be included in these home visits, socialize with the locals and eat their food was a great honor.
I also enjoyed strolling through the town of Kuching with its beautiful waterfront promenade, its restaurants, 5-Star hotels, craft stores, and markets; and I couldn’t resist leaving without purchasing some beautiful gold jewelry and native crafts.... at unbelievably low prices. It is hard to imagine that this bustling city is only a 45 minute ride away from primary rainforests!!

I saw things I would never have seen if she had not been organizing this trip.... the guide from the local tour company hired by Jungle Jaunts was very knowledgeable and took great care of us. He made me feel very secure and relaxed on the Jungle trip.
